HMRC Payroll Inspections

HMRC regularly carry out compliance visits to check that PAYE is being operated in accordance with the rules and regulations.

Problems often arise with expense payments, payments to “casual” staff or payments to staff that declare “self-employment” status.

Records must be kept for a minimum of 6 years plus the current year. HMRC will often target companies that are not keeping their records up to date.
